Swiatek expressed her regret in a statement, saying she had an amazing time playing and winning the tournament last year and was really looking forward to being back there.
The China Open is set to take place from September 25 to October 6, and fans were eagerly anticipating Swiatek’s return. Her withdrawal means that American Jessica Pegula will likely face a different opponent in the quarterfinals.
