Trends in Tennis: A Young Player’s Perspective

Hey there, fellow tennis enthusiasts It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter here, living the dream in Miami. I’m super excited to share some awesome news with you all about the latest trends in tennis and beyond.

Pacific Women Leaders in Tennis Workshop

Recently, I stumbled upon an article that caught my eye. It was about a leadership program called the Pacific Women and Girls in Tennis – Emerging Leaders workshop. This amazing event took place in Fiji and brought together eleven talented women from the Pacific region to learn, grow, and connect with each other. The workshop is part of Tennis Australia’s broader mission to empower women and girls in tennis. It’s all about creating opportunities for them to develop their skills, build confidence, and become leaders within the sport. I mean, can you imagine being part of a group that’s passionate about tennis and dedicated to inspiring others? It’s like a dream come true!

Recent Tournament Highlights

If you’re into professional tennis, you might have heard about the recent Columbus Challenger finals. Naoki Nakagawa beat OSU grad, James Trotter, in the finals. It was a great match with Nakagawa winning 7-6, 5-7, 7-6. I counted approximately 65 people in attendance. It was a nice break for me from HS tennis. It is relatively easy to get great photos of professional players while the hardest is boys high school doubles. Boys are willing to make the trade-off of double faulting a zillion billion times (slight exaggeration alert) in order to get one ace.

Matteo Berrettini’s Journey

While we’re on the topic of professional tennis, let’s talk about Matteo Berrettini’s journey. The Italian ace has been working hard to regain his form after last year’s ankle injury during the US Open. Berrettini’s season aims to be a seeded player at the 2025 Australian Open. He has won titles in Marrakech, Gstaad, and Kitzbuhel but faces challenges in reaching beyond the second round in Masters 1000 and Grand Slam tournaments. His recent performance at the Shanghai Masters shows promise as he defeated Christopher O’Connell but struggled against Holger Rune.
