Hey there, fellow tennis enthusiasts It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter here, living the dream in Miami. Today, I’m super excited to share some awesome news with you all about an incredible initiative happening in the tennis world, while also diving into the latest thoughts from a tennis legend.
Roger Federer Reflects on Tennis Evolution
First off, let’s talk about the one and only Roger Federer. The Swiss legend recently shared his insights on how the game of tennis is evolving. During an interview, Federer mentioned that the current generation of players is hitting bigger forehands and backhands, being more fearless, and realizing the rewards are there. He emphasized that the best movers are the best players, and you can see that in action on the court.
“It’s not so much about technique anymore,” Federer said. “I’ve got fooled enough in the last 10, 15, 20 years where I think, ‘I’m not sure about this technique’ but with racket technology and string technology, you can iron those problems out and so long as you hit hard and nice through the ball, everything is possible in tennis to be honest. The game is where it was, but just a step higher. Perhaps just a lack of variation but that’s because we have all double-handers (on the backhand side) these days and they don’t use the slice as much.”

Roger Federer’s career has been nothing short of legendary. He played his last match at the Laver Cup in doubles with his eternal rival Rafael Nadal in September 2022. The emotional tribute he received at the O2 Arena in London was truly special, especially considering his eight Wimbledon Championships.
Empowering Women in Tennis
Now, let’s talk about something really cool happening in our tennis community. Recently, I stumbled upon an article about a leadership program called the Pacific Women and Girls in Tennis – Emerging Leaders workshop. This amazing event took place in Fiji and brought together eleven talented women from the Pacific region to learn, grow, and connect with each other.
The workshop is part of Tennis Australia’s broader mission to empower women and girls in tennis. It’s all about creating opportunities for them to develop their skills, build confidence, and become leaders within the sport. Initiatives like this workshop are crucial for fostering a more inclusive and supportive community within the sport.

Roger Federer’s Post-Retirement Life
After retiring from professional tennis, Roger Federer has been keeping busy with various projects outside of the sport. He recently visited Paris with his wife Mirka and explored ‘La Galerie Dior’, an amazing museum dedicated to famous French designer Christian Dior. This shows that even though he’s retired from playing tennis, he’s still very much involved in the world of sports and culture.
The Future of Tennis
The way Roger Federer talks about the future of tennis is really inspiring. He believes that the game will continue to evolve, with players becoming more fearless and powerful. He also mentioned that the rivalry between young champions like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz is electrifying fans around the world.
During the Laver Cup, King Roger also spoke about Carlitos’ rise: “What I like and I am surprised about Carlos is his intensity, the athletic ability he has and the power of his shots. I think he should learn to regulate efforts, not to run so much for all the balls, but that will learn with age. Also, as the years pass, he will be even stronger mentally.”

The way Carlos Alcaraz played the fifth set of the 2023 Wimbledon final against Djokovic made Federer see that he is the one to fight for glory for a long time. The power he showed there, with Novak playing at full capacity, was impressive. Of course, he is qualified to win in Melbourne in a few months. When you’ve won two Grand Slams this year, you’re destined to fight for that title.
