Hey there, fellow tennis enthusiasts It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter here, living the dream in Miami. I’m super excited to share some awesome news with you all about one of the most impressive tennis players right now—Jannik Sinner.
Jannik Sinner, the 23-year-old Italian ace, has been on fire this season. Despite the stress of a doping case and the long trial that followed, Sinner has managed to maintain an incredible level of performance. He was found innocent by ITIA, but WADA has the right to appeal against the acquittal. However, it seems increasingly remote as Sinner’s version of events was considered very credible.
Sinner’s numbers in 2024 are truly impressive. He has won the Australian Open and the US Open, as well as the Masters 1000 in Miami and Cincinnati, and the ATP 500 in Rotterdam and Halle. He has only suffered five defeats this season.
Currently, Sinner is playing in Beijing, where he is trying to defend last year’s title. His path to the semifinals looks fairly simple, and he should have no problems getting there. After defeating the dangerous Chilean Nicolas Jarry in his debut, Sinner is set to face Russian Roman Safiullin tomorrow in the round of 16.
The Italian also benefited from the forfeits of Jan-Lennard Struff and Grigor Dimitrov before the start of the tournament, which were the two most dangerous opponents on his run. Sinner has become a very strong player on all surfaces, but especially unbeatable on hard courts.
Sinner has been on a roll since his famous loss in New York in 2023 against Alexander Zverev in five sets. Since then, he has not suffered any defeat in the following 48 matches against players ranked above the top 20 of the world ranking. This impressive streak has certified the level reached by the native of Val Pusteria, who aims to close for the first time in his career season as leader of the ranking.
In an interview with Tennis TV, Sinner opened up about his amazing season: “Yeah, this season has been amazing, no. A lot of wins, a lot of matches played, with not so many tournaments in my schedule—which I managed then to practice the body in the right way. Look, I’m just very happy to be in the position where I am right now. The season is not over, there are some very important tournaments coming up, so hopefully I will be ready. One of my main goals for sure now is the year-end finals in Turin, and this is a very special tournament for me. After, there is the Davis Cup and so many things to come. So, yeah, I’m happy, but still we try to improve, even if it’s the last part of the season, and then we see how it goes.”
Sinner’s rise to fame is almost unbelievable, especially after the numerous physical problems he faced in 2022. He has changed gears since the second half of last year, particularly after losing to Sascha Zverev at the 2023 US Open. With a great season finale, 2024 of Jannik could be equated to 2006 of Roger Federer and 2015 of Novak Djokovic—it would be an extraordinary feat for a player who turned 23 just over a month ago.
