Hey, tennis fans It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter here, and I’m super excited to share some awesome news from the world of tennis. If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the lookout for the latest updates and trends in our favorite sport. Let’s dive right in!
Goran Ivanisevic, the legendary Croatian tennis player and former coach of Novak Djokovic, has announced his new partnership with Elena Rybakina. This move is making waves in the tennis community, especially since Ivanisevic’s last stint was with one of the greatest players of all time, Novak Djokovic. So, what inspired him to make this switch?
According to Ivanisevic, he needed something different after his six-year partnership with Djokovic ended in late March. He told Sasa Ozmo of Tennis Majors that he was looking for a challenge and something that would keep him curious. When Elena Rybakina reached out to him, he felt it was the perfect opportunity to transition to the WTA Tour and work with someone he highly respects.
Ivanisevic’s decision to join forces with Rybakina isn’t just about her impressive skills on the court; it’s also about her personality and potential. The former world No. 2 believes that Rybakina’s calm demeanor will be a great asset in their coaching relationship. Here’s what he had to say:
“There were some other offers, but I think I chose the right one for me – because of Elena’s playing style and potential, but also because of her personality. Elena is calm and I can’t wait to get going. I think it’s going to be great,” Ivanisevic explained.
Rybakina herself is thrilled about the collaboration, calling Ivanisevic “a great champion” and expressing her excitement about starting their partnership. Despite facing some health issues and injuries, Rybakina has managed to achieve significant success on the WTA Tour. Ivanisevic plans to help her tackle these challenges head-on and elevate her game even further.
