Hey there, fellow tennis enthusiasts It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter here, living the dream in Miami. I’m super excited to share some not-so-great news with you all about Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion. Emma has been dealing with a foot injury that’s really set back her plans for the Asian swing.
Emma Raducanu recently sustained a foot injury that has forced her to withdraw from the qualifying event of the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan. This news comes after she was forced to retire mid-match during the Korea Open against Daria Kasatkina due to what appeared to be a foot issue. The former world No. 10 has announced that she injured her ligaments and will need more time to heal.
“It’s been tough months, now work is giving results,” Emma Raducanu explained in a recent statement. “I thank my family and my team. You travel with me and support me every day. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the hard work you do for me, even in difficult moments.”
This setback is particularly disheartening for Raducanu because she had planned to focus heavily on the Asian swing, which includes tournaments like the WTA 250 event in Hong Kong scheduled for October 28th. Her goal was to play as many matches as possible and finish the season on a high note.
“It’s like a dream come true!” I exclaimed when I heard about initiatives like the Pacific Women and Girls in Tennis – Emerging Leaders workshop. This amazing event brought together eleven talented women from the Pacific region to learn, grow, and connect with each other. It’s all about creating opportunities for women to develop their skills, build confidence, and become leaders within the sport.
In recent years, there’s been a growing trend of women taking center stage in various sports, including tennis. Initiatives like this workshop are crucial for fostering a more inclusive and supportive community within the sport.
But let’s get back to Emma Raducanu. Her plans for this part of the season have been severely hampered. It remains to be seen if she will at least be able to return to action later this month.
