Emma Raducanu Faces Rankings Push Disruption at Korea Open

Hey there, fellow tennis enthusiasts It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter here, living the dream in Miami. I’m super excited to share some awesome news with you all about Emma Raducanu’s current situation at the Korea Open.

Emma Raducanu, the former US Open champion, is facing an extended wait for her rankings push due to poor weather conditions at the WTA 500 event in Seoul. Her quarter-final encounter against top seed Daria Kasatkina was cancelled, and all matches at the tournament were called off due to persistent rain.

Raducanu was set to face Kasatkina in a crunch clash on Friday afternoon, but the match has been rescheduled for Saturday. The revised schedule places Raducanu and Kasatkina as the second match on Centre Court, starting around 14:00 local time. The match will follow a contest between Polina Kudermetova and third seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, with the remaining two quarter-finals moved to Grandstand.

The weather forecast in Seoul doesn’t look promising for Saturday either, with heavy rain expected until the late afternoon. This could significantly impact the tournament’s schedule and might force players to rush to Beijing for the upcoming WTA 1000 event, the China Open.

Raducanu has already sealed a significant rankings boost from the tournament in Seoul, where she reached the last four in 2022. Her victories over Peyton Stearns and Yuan Yue have sent her world ranking up to 54th, and a win against Kasatkina could cement her return to the top 50. However, fellow quarter-finalist Viktoriya Tomova is also chasing the same rankings milestone, making the competition even more intense.

The winner of Raducanu’s match against Kasatkina will face one of Marta Kostyuk or Diana Shnaider in the semi-final. The stakes are high for both players as they aim to secure their place in the top 50.
