Hey there, fellow tennis enthusiasts It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter from Miami, and I’m super excited to share some awesome news with you all about the latest happenings in the world of tennis. Whether you’re a junior player looking to make it big or just a fan of the game, there’s always something new and exciting happening.
Let’s dive into the recent updates from the ITF Junior Circuit and high school tennis tournaments. For instance, Jacob Lee and Jordyn Hazelitt made waves at the ITF J60 in Mexico. Jacob Lee, a 16-year-old from Georgia, won his fourth ITF Junior Circuit title with a thrilling 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Navneet Raghuram. In doubles, Lee and his partner Anirudh Dhanwada defeated Luis Andres Flores Avila and Guillermo Marcio of Mexico 6-2, 6-2. **[Image: Jacob Lee celebrating his win](https://www.tennisworldusa.org/world/media/image154473.jpg)**
Another standout performer is Zavier Augustin, who won his first ITF Junior Circuit singles title at the J60 in Honduras. He also secured the doubles title with Sean Grosman, defeating top seeds Oliver Moises Aguilar Gasperin and Lucas Martin Velasco 7-5, 7-5 in the final.
In high school tennis, Loveland High School is one of the top teams in Ohio. Players like Marlee Fleming, Laura Hiett, and Anna Proano-Raps are making a name for themselves in the Central District. Other notable players include Mallory Hitchcock from Eaton who defeated Sophie Jovanov of Miamisburg; Lauren Burkett from Dublin Coffman who beat Harshini Mallipeddi of Olentangy; and Elena Fleming from Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin who defeated Meredith Hurley of Shaker Heights.
But let’s not forget about the pros Coco Gauff recently had an incredible journey at the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan. The No. 4 seed appeared to be cruising toward a straight-set win over Aryna Sabalenka but ended up losing 1-6 6-4 6-4. Gauff’s serving woes played a major part in the Belarusian’s comeback, with Gauff hitting three double faults in the first set and nine in each of the next two sets. **[Image: Coco Gauff in action](https://www.tennisworldusa.org/world/media/image154471.jpg)**
Gauff explained that she was experimenting with a new serve just before the start of the Asian swing and knew it wasn’t going to be great. Despite this, she was surprisingly able to do well with it, especially considering she had only a week to learn it.
Sabalenka offered some major empathy for Gauff, recalling her own struggles with double faults just two years ago. Sabalenka finished the 2022 season with a whopping 428 double faults but resolved the issue with the help of a biomechanics coach. She went on to win three Grand Slams and reach the world No. 1 spot.
Gauff appreciated Sabalenka’s kind words but didn’t want someone to feel sorry for her. She emphasized that she had two good weeks in Beijing and Wuhan and was focusing on being positive despite her serving issues.
Before seeing her Wuhan run come to an end, Gauff won her second WTA 1000 title in Beijing and overall her seventh WTA title. Now, she will turn her focus on preparing for the WTA Finals, which starts on November 2nd in Riyadh.
