Hey there, fellow tennis enthusiasts It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter here, living the dream in Miami. I’m super excited to share some awesome news with you all about the latest happenings in the tennis world.
Carlos Alcaraz, the young Spaniard, has been making waves in the tennis scene. Recently, he qualified for the 3rd round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters by beating the young rising star Juncheng Shang, an idol of the Chinese crowd. This victory marked Alcaraz’s 10th consecutive win, following his shocking elimination in the 2nd round of the US Open and his participation in the Davis Cup, Laver Cup, and ATP tournaments in Beijing and Shanghai.
At the press conference, Alcaraz analyzed both his victory against Shang and his current physical condition. He expressed his confidence in training with Shang in the future, stating that Shang will become a top player. Alcaraz also highlighted his rigorous preparation over the past few weeks to maintain his physical well-being for the competition. He emphasized his focus on enjoying his time on the court and playing good points and rallies.
The young Spaniard then discussed his next opponent in Shanghai, Yibing Wu. Alcaraz acknowledged Wu’s impressive win over Jarry (6-2, 6-1) and emphasized the need to be very focused for their upcoming match. He plans to watch Wu’s match from the previous day to understand his opponent’s level and prepare for the challenge.
Alcaraz has been vocal about the busy schedule that characterizes the ATP Tour. During the Media Day in Shanghai, he reiterated his concerns about the hectic schedule, explaining how he had to travel immediately after the China Open final and arrived in Shanghai at four in the morning to get some rest before the match. Despite the challenges, Alcaraz is determined to perform at his best and enjoy every second of his time on the court.
In recent years, there has been a growing trend of women taking center stage in various sports, including tennis. Initiatives like the Pacific Women and Girls in Tennis – Emerging Leaders workshop, which brought together eleven talented women from the Pacific region to learn and grow, are crucial for fostering a more inclusive and supportive community within the sport.
If you want, you can check out the news where I found it here.
