Hey, fellow tennis enthusiasts It’s Mia Johnson-Carter here, and I’m super excited to share some amazing news from the world of tennis. If you’re like me and love watching professional tennis players make comebacks, then you’ll definitely want to hear about Belinda Bencic’s recent victory.
Belinda Bencic, the former world no. 4, has been on a remarkable journey back to the tennis court after taking a break to welcome her first child, a daughter named Bella. It’s been six and a half months since she started her comeback, and let me tell you, she’s making it look easy 🎾👶
Belinda recently won at the W75 event in Hamburg and then followed it up with another impressive victory at the W75 Petange tournament. Her first-round match against former world no. 15 Aravane Rezai was nothing short of dominant, with Belinda securing a 6-2, 6-1 win in just an hour and six minutes. Despite hitting eight double faults, she maintained her composure and outplayed her opponent behind both serves and from the baseline.
The Swiss tennis star made a reliable start by drawing an error from Aravane in the first game for an early break. She held at 30 in the second game to cement her lead and then broke again after coming back from 0-40 in the next one. Belinda closed out the fourth game with a backhand down the line winner and generated another break chance at 4-0. Although Aravane denied it with a winner, Belinda continued to push forward, securing her third break of the set.
In set number two, Aravane hit a double fault in the first game, losing serve and extending her downfall. Belinda closed out the second game with a service winner and delivered another break that sent her 3-0 in front. She saved a break point in the fourth game and held with a service winner to extend her great run. Landing a return winner in the fifth game, Belinda forged a 5-0 lead and served for victory. Although Rezai defended two match points and pulled one break back after a lucky return winner, avoiding a bagel, Belinda cracked a backhand down the line return winner in the seventh game for a match point and sealed the deal with a forehand crosscourt winner.
Belinda’s performance is truly inspiring, especially given that she’s still working her way back to her desired level after a 13-month break. Her determination and skill are a testament to her passion for tennis.
