Hey, tennis fans It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter here, and I’m super excited to share some amazing news from the world of tennis. As a young player living in Miami, I’m always pumped about what’s happening on the courts, and today’s story is truly inspiring.
Aryna Sabalenka, the three-time major champion, has been making waves in the tennis community with her incredible skills and determination. But what makes her journey even more special is the promise she made to herself after her father, Sergiy, passed away prematurely in 2019 due to meningitis.
Sabalenka has been on a mission to honor her father’s memory by becoming the best in the world. And boy, has she been achieving that goal After winning her third major title, she once again made it clear that her father is still No.1 in her heart, five years after his passing.
When asked about her place in the history of the sport after claiming her third major title, Sabalenka shared some heartfelt words:
“Every time I see my name on that trophy, I’m so proud of myself, I’m proud of my family that they never gave up on my dream and that they were doing everything they could to keep me going.”
Sabalenka’s journey is not just about her own achievements; it’s also about putting their family name in the history of tennis. She’s now fourth on the WTA’s active Grand Slam title winner list, behind only Venus Williams (7), Iga Swiatek (5), and Naomi Osaka (4).
Her latest victory came on Saturday when she defeated Jessica Pegula, 7-5, 7-5, in Arthur Ashe Stadium. This solidified her status as the best hard court player in women’s tennis.
“It’s been always my dream,” she said. “I still kind of cannot believe that I was able to achieve, like me with my team, we were able to achieve so much already.”
Sabalenka’s story is truly an inspiration to all of us, reminding us that with hard work and determination, we can achieve anything we set our minds to.
