The World of Tennis: Trends, News, and Insights

Hey y’all, it’s Mia Johnson-Carter here, and I’m super excited to share some fresh news from the world of tennis with you. As a young tennis player living in Miami, I’m always on the lookout for what’s hot and happening in our sport.

First off, let’s talk about the latest trend in tennis rankings. If you’re like me, you’re probably obsessed with knowing where you stand among the best players out there. The Tennis Recruiting Network has been ranking tennis players for over two decades, providing us with a clear picture of who’s rising to the top and who’s still got some work to do. For instance, Riley Trinkle from the College of Charleston caught my eye; she developed a love for the Cougars while watching her sister play and eventually committed to join the program. It’s inspiring to see how hard work and dedication can lead to amazing opportunities!

Now, let’s dive into some news that’s got everyone buzzing. The Alps Tour Qualifying School 2024 has begun, marking its 20th edition. This prestigious event is taking place in Italy and features 203 competitors from around the globe, including 66 Italian players. The competition will be held over two stages: Stage 1 on November 7-8 at three golf courses in Italy, and the final stage from November 13-15 at the Golf Nazionale courses in Sutri and the Terre dei Consoli Golf Club & Resort in Monterosi. The top performers will earn category 6 ‘cards,’ which grant them full-time participation on the Alps Tour 2025.

Another exciting development is the growth of tennis in Ohio high schools. Ohio Tennis Zone is your go-to source for all things Ohio high school tennis, including results, rankings, and news. Recently, Upper Arlington secured a spot in the Central District D1 Final Four by defeating New Albany. The field is now set for the State Team Tournament, which will be held at Wooster. It’s amazing to see how passionate and talented young players are making their mark in the sport.

Lastly, while tennis might not be the only sport on everyone’s mind right now, it’s always interesting to see how other athletes contribute to their respective sports. For example, Kent Hunter, an assistant coach at SMU, has quite the impressive background in tennis. He grew up playing tennis in Compton, California, and went on to compete at high levels in college tennis before transitioning into coaching pickleball as well. It’s inspiring to see how versatile athletes can be!

If you want, you can check out the news where I found it here.

Yours truly,
Mia
