Fixing Serving Troubles in Tennis: A Young Player’s Perspective

Hey there, fellow tennis enthusiasts It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter here, living the dream in Miami. I’m super excited to share some awesome news with you all about an incredible initiative happening in the tennis world.

Recently, I stumbled upon an article that caught my eye. It was about a leadership program called the Pacific Women and Girls in Tennis – Emerging Leaders workshop. This amazing event took place in Fiji and brought together eleven talented women from the Pacific region to learn, grow, and connect with each other. The workshop is part of Tennis Australia’s broader mission to empower women and girls in tennis. It’s all about creating opportunities for them to develop their skills, build confidence, and become leaders within the sport. I mean, can you imagine being part of a group that’s passionate about tennis and dedicated to inspiring others? It’s like a dream come true…

Now, let’s talk about why this is so important. In recent years, there’s been a growing trend of women taking center stage in various sports, including tennis. The search for “women in tennis” has been on the rise, with many fans and players alike celebrating the achievements of female athletes. Initiatives like this workshop are crucial for fostering a more inclusive and supportive community within the sport.

But what about the serving troubles that some of our top players are facing? Let’s take a look at Coco Gauff, who has been dealing with major serving issues lately. According to recent news, Serena Williams’ childhood coach Rick Macci believes there is a very easy fix to Coco Gauff’s serving issues. He thinks the American just needs to hire a biomechanics trainer to determine what is exactly wrong and how it should be addressed.

Coco Gauff has been struggling with her serve, hitting a record 21 double faults in a match against Aryna Sabalenka at the Wuhan Open. This has been one of the biggest reasons why she didn’t get the results she was hoping for in some of the major tournaments that took place this past summer. However, like many other young players, Gauff is determined to overcome these challenges.

Sabalenka herself faced similar struggles in 2022 but found success by hiring a biomechanics coach. Since then, she has won three Grand Slams and reached the world No. 1 spot. Gauff was asked if she would be willing to turn to biomechanics for help and she replied that she definitely wants to get other opinions because sometimes it’s more of an emotional or mental thing.

The journey of overcoming serving troubles is not just about technical fixes but also about mental toughness. As Sabalenka said after Gauff’s match, “I was playing that match thinking, like, ‘Well, girl, I feel you. I feel you like nobody else.’ I know what she’s going through. This is really difficult. This is really tough. But I know that if she’ll be able to overcome this serve situation, she already one of the best players, but I’m pretty sure she’s going to be one of the greatest players.”

Yours truly,
Mia
